Following a fire in Bochum in which three people died, police have arrested a resident of the building. According to sueddeutsche.de, the murder commission is investigating the 41-year-old on suspicion of malice.
The fire broke out in the night leading to Tuesday, 13 October, at approximately 4:15 a.m. in a flat in the multi-family building. During firefighting operations, firefighters discovered three bodies: two women (aged 25 and 27) and a 26-year-old man of Indian nationality. Five further people suffered smoke inhalation injuries and were taken to hospitals.
Firefighters rescued two people from the building using an elevated ladder platform, two using portable ladders, and one person using a jump mat. The wooden stairwell was completely destroyed; the building is uninhabitable following the fire.
