A young man intervenes on a Bremen tram when an older man makes racist remarks to children. The attacker subsequently injures him with a glass bottle.

Civic courage in Bremen with consequences
According to n-tv, a 25-year-old protected three girls from an aggressive man on a tram in Bremen – and subsequently became a victim of violence himself. On Saturday evening on line 10, a 41-year-old made racist remarks to the children and, according to police, also made homophobic comments.
The young man positioned himself protectively in front of the girls and told the man to stop making the insults. The attacker then verbally abused the helper. When the children left the tram and boarded a bus, the 41-year-old attempted to follow them.
The 25-year-old prevented this by pulling the older man out of the bus. The man then struck him on the head with a glass bottle, injuring him. The young man defended himself, brought his attacker to the ground and held him until the police arrived.
The Bremen authorities commended the courageous conduct of the 25-year-old. They are now searching for the three girls – aged between 8 and 13 according to police and with dark skin colour – or their parents as witnesses. The authorities accept information from the public.
