Brutal attack in Düsseldorf: police seek two assailants

Following an antisemitic attack in Düsseldorf, police are searching for two suspects. According to BILD, a 35-year-old Jewish man was beaten at Rathausufer on 22 September at around 20:30. The man was wearing a kippah and a jumper with the inscription "Israel Defense Forces".
The attack began with verbal abuse. A woman insulted the victim as a "child murderer". This led to an argument. Then the two men being sought intervened and attacked the victim with punches and kicks. The assault only ended when three passers-by stepped in. During this, one of the helpers was injured by a punch. The victim sustained minor injuries.
The perpetrators and two other women managed to escape. In comments to the "Rheinische Post", the victim said that he would in future appear more frequently in public wearing the kippah. Police describe the two suspects as approximately 175 and 180 centimetres tall. One was wearing a distinctly red jogging suit and has dark hair in shoulder-length curls. His accomplice has dark short hair. Both are said to be of North African origin.
The Jewish Community of Düsseldorf condemned the attack. The state protection authority in North Rhine-Westphalia is investigating. The police are accepting information on telephone number 0211/8700.
