A criminal trial begins today at Paderborn District Court against a 29-year-old man. The prosecution accuses him of brutally assaulting his ex-partner at a municipal accommodation facility in Delbrück.
The charge is as follows: In January, the defendant allegedly attacked the woman with a glass bottle in the presence of their children. The bottle shattered during the assault. The fragments caused deep wounds to the woman's head and neck, in some places going down to the bone.
Since his arrest, the suspect has remained in pre-trial detention. So far, he has made no statement regarding the allegations against him.
