During a traffic stop on the A3 motorway near Passau, German police stopped a 40-year-old Serbian national. The man was driving a Lamborghini Urus with German number plates but was unable to prove the vehicle's origin.
According to Auto-Motor-Und-Sport, federal police conducted a multi-hour control operation at the German-Austrian border on 1 July. During a search of the driver, officers found cash totalling several tens of thousands of euros as well as two luxury watches worth over 100,000 euros.
Since the Serbian citizen could not explain the origin of the valuables, police seized the money, the watches and the vehicle. An investigation was launched against him on suspicion of money laundering.
As part of the same operation, officers also stopped an Audi driver, with whom a valuable collection of silver coins was found. Here too, the owner was unable to prove the collection's origin, whereupon it was also seized and an investigation was launched on suspicion of money laundering.
Additionally, two arrest warrants were executed during the operation. In one case, the driver was able to avoid arrest by paying a fine. In the case of a 24-year-old Romanian citizen, police also discovered a forged driving licence. An investigation was launched against him for forgery and driving without a valid driving licence.
In total, police documented six criminal offences during the multi-hour operation and arrested five wanted persons. Such intensified checks on the A3 near the Austrian border are carried out regularly in order to combat cross-border crime.
