A 40-year-old doctor has confessed in court to killing twelve of his patients. He faces charges of murdering a total of 15 patients between September 2021 and July 2024.
German doctor confesses in court: twelve patients killed
A 40-year-old doctor admitted in court on Thursday that he had taken the lives of twelve of his patients. The man is accused of killing a total of 15 patients – twelve women and three men – between September 2021 and July 2024.
Previously he had made no statement regarding the allegations. Several weeks ago, the court played secret recordings of a telephone conversation between the doctor and his wife while he was in custody. In these conversations, the doctor admitted to the murders.
"Only now am I able to explain my actions, and I take responsibility for what I have done," the man said in a 30-minute statement before the court. He addressed the bereaved: "I am sorry for the enormous suffering I have caused you."
He explained in court that he was not speaking because of the overwhelming evidence, but rather because of the self-examination he had conducted in his prison cell over the past months.
