Two killed in knife attack at private school in Brandenburg; 19-year-old suspect detained

Correio da Manhã reports that an attack at a private school in Gosen-Neu Zittau, in the German state of Brandenburg, resulted in two deaths on Thursday. The main suspect, a 19-year-old youth, was detained by German authorities shortly afterwards.
One of the fatalities is an 18-year-old student, identified as the suspect's ex-girlfriend. The second victim is a 30-year-old man who died attempting to prevent the attacker from continuing the assault.
The incident occurred in the early afternoon at the campus of the private school Docemus. The authorities received several emergency calls and were alerted at approximately 13:45.
German local media outlets report that a knife was used during the attack, but the exact circumstances in which the crime occurred remain unclear. German authorities are continuing the investigation and the attacker's motive remains to be determined.
It has not yet been confirmed whether the suspect was attending the school at the time of the attack or had been a student at the establishment in the past.
The campus was surrounded by a large police presence, with armed officers, firefighters and emergency teams mobilised to the scene. Two medical emergency helicopters were also dispatched.
