Double murder in Gosen-Neu Zittau: educator dies attempting to save pupil
A 19-year-old killed a pupil and her educator with a knife at a private school in Brandenburg. The prosecutor's office requested remand in custody on charges of double murder.

At the Docemus private school in Gosen-Neu Zittau, Brandenburg, a 19-year-old pupil killed two people with a knife on early Thursday afternoon. The victims are 18-year-old pupil Anna-Lena and 30-year-old educator Philipp P., who rushed to her aid. According to BILD, the Frankfurt an der Oder prosecutor's office has requested remand in custody for suspect Mika S. on charges of double murder.
At around 13:15, educator Petra Alves (64) heard screams from the schoolyard. "I went to the window and saw the perpetrator stabbing. Again and again. He must have stabbed her at least 20 times. He was out of his mind," Alves told BILD. She has worked at the school for five years and was in a classroom at the time of the attack.
Mika S. is said to have been Anna-Lena's former boyfriend. According to a pupil who later witnessed the act, the two had previously argued at a bus stop outside the school grounds. The next time a seventh-grader saw them, Anna-Lena was already lying on the ground. "There was a lot of blood," he said. Other children fled, and he himself ran into the building.
Alves watched from the window as the perpetrator knelt over the pupil lying on the ground, took her in his arms and laughed hysterically. At that moment, Philipp P. intervened. "Then Philipp came round the corner, called out. The perpetrator stood up and immediately stabbed," Alves reported. She could not see more – she took the children to the basement to safety.
Philipp P. was equally popular with colleagues and pupils. He was a goalkeeping coach and played in his spare time for SG Grün-Weiß Deutsch-Wusterhausen in the district premier league. He had married just a year ago; he and his wife had planned to have children. "He is a hero for us. He gave his life because he wanted to save a pupil," Alves said about her dead colleague.
Both victims died on the school grounds – the emergency doctors were unable to save either Anna-Lena or Philipp P. Several teachers pursued the perpetrator; Mika S. was eventually held in check by teachers using a shovel until the police arrived.
The Frankfurt an der Oder prosecutor's office accuses Mika S. of having killed both victims "among other things for base motives," a spokeswoman for the authority said. The request for remand in custody was filed on the same day.
Mourners have laid flowers and lit candles at the dead educator's motorcycle. Pupils left flowers, candles and soft toys at the school in remembrance of Anna-Lena and Philipp P.
