Multiple police operations following escalations overnight
According to www1.wdr.de, several police operations took place in Euskirchen in the early hours of Sunday morning involving the same group of young men. Officers ultimately took three people aged 19 to 37 into custody.
The incidents began with a threat at a petrol station: a man threatened a visitor that he would injure him with a knife. While police officers were taking the report, one of the men urinated against a patrol car. As events unfolded, the men became involved in a dispute among themselves.
During the operations, a police officer was slightly injured when one of the men physically assaulted him. One of those involved had to be taken to hospital and drew further attention there: he was smoking in the kitchen area. The hospital issued him with a ban from the premises. When a police officer attempted to enforce this ban, the man assaulted the officer — which led to his compulsory admission to a psychiatric facility.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against all those involved. Investigations are being conducted, among other things, for assault on police officers.
