More than 25 grammes of a white substance along with a handwritten message – this is what a 37-year-old man in Swabia wanted to use to eliminate a rival. The defendant worked as a security officer at a parcel delivery service and exploited this position for an act of revenge.
When the man discovered in the summer that his wife was committing adultery, he is said to have issued a warning to his competitor. Shortly afterwards, he allegedly noticed a suspicious package while at work. He claimed to have found narcotics inside and alerted the officers. The investigators subsequently took the alleged target into their sights.
The strategy showed temporary effectiveness: the extramarital affair broke up, and the couple reconciled. However, the affected party filed a complaint against him for threats. The investigators changed course and focused on the husband. During a search of his flat, they discovered the text that had also been contained in the supposed drug package.
The public prosecutor's office accused the defendant of proceeding with "high criminal energy". Before the Augsburg district court, the father of the family admitted to the manipulation. His defence argued that he had acted under emotional stress and merely wanted to save the marriage.
The judge imposed a prison sentence of 18 months, which was suspended. She pointed out that the material had an unusually low level of purity – otherwise it might have resulted in harsher consequences. The convicted man lost his job at the logistics company. The origin of the substance remained unclear.
