The alarm at the toy shop was triggered during the night. Video footage showed two suspected perpetrators transporting playing cards and display cases worth several tens of thousands of euros in a vehicle.
A police patrol located the vehicle shortly afterwards and attempted to stop it. The driver accelerated and fled — in doing so, he sideswiped the police car and caused minor damage to it. The flight route led via the A3 motorway in the direction of Frankfurt am Main, then via the A661 motorway, before the vehicle switched to the A5 motorway in the opposite direction at the Bad Homburg interchange. During this time, police lost sight of the fleeing car; a helicopter was also deployed in the search.
Eventually the vehicle crashed in Frankfurt am Main. Officers surrounded the car and provisionally arrested a 33-year-old from North Rhine-Westphalia. According to police findings, his companion had already exited the car during the flight and was no longer in the vehicle at the time of the arrest. A search continues for the second suspect.
Police are seeking witnesses who can provide information about the incident or the fleeing perpetrator.
