The Fabian case: contradictions in murder trial of eight-year-old boy from Güstrow
At the Rostock regional court on Friday, an important witness testified in the murder trial concerning eight-year-old Fabian from Güstrow. The 36-year-old Christian D. reported contradictions in the statements made by defendant Gina H.
The witness was the first man who, together with the 36-year-old, discovered the burnt remains of the boy in a wooded area near Güstrow. He described to the court how Gina H. allegedly reacted upon seeing the mortal remains. In doing so, she became entangled in contradictions.
According to Christian D., Gina H. initially claimed that she was unable to identify the body. However, she later mentioned details that only someone who knew the boy could have known. The witness noticed these discrepancies and reported them to the criminal chamber.
The 36-year-old also explained that he had known Gina H. from the town for approximately ten years. She had initiated closer contact approximately four weeks before the discovery of the body. He initially kept this contact secret because he did not want it to be discussed in the village.
Gina H. is accused of killing eight-year-old Fabian on 10 October 2025. The boy disappeared without trace. Four days later, the defendant reported to the police and claimed to have found the burnt remains of the child in a remote wooded area. In early November, she was arrested.
The prosecution charges the 36-year-old with murder by treachery and from base motives. According to the prosecution's account, Gina H. intended to end disputes with Fabian's father through the act and thus continue the relationship with him. Since the trial began at the end of April 2026, the defendant has remained silent in court.
