Confidence fraud in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen: Fake doctor robs 87-year-old
An unknown fraudster obtained jewellery and gold from a Berlin pensioner using a fabricated cancer story. Police are searching with surveillance footage.

An 87-year-old pensioner from Berlin-Hohenschönhausen has become the victim of an audacious confidence fraud. According to BILD, a man called the senior and posed as a doctor from Charité—his message: the pensioner's cancer-stricken daughter urgently needed an expensive medication.
The 87-year-old believed the story. Shortly afterwards, a collector rang at his door in Alt-Hohenschönhausen. The senior handed over jewellery and gold to the unknown man. Berlin police have made no statement about the exact value of the haul.
The fraud occurred on 9 April 2026. At around 14:30, the collector rang at the pensioner's door. After receiving the valuables, the perpetrator fled in the direction of a petrol station on Hansastraße.
The criminal police are investigating the matter as fraud and are now publicly searching for the unknown man using images from a surveillance camera. In the recordings, the perpetrator can be seen wearing a conspicuous jogging suit.
