Knife attack in Munich's old town: waiter seriously injured after attempting to mediate
A 29-year-old waiter was seriously injured in Munich's old town after attempting to mediate a dispute, when he was stabbed in the upper body with a knife. The perpetrator fled unidentified.

A 29-year-old waiter was seriously injured by a knife wound to the upper body in Munich's old town during the night into Wednesday. This is reported by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, citing police.
The man was on his way home from work at around 2 a.m. when he encountered a quarrelling couple in the passage between Lederer Street and Burg Street. When he attempted to mediate, his opponent suddenly stabbed him. The couple subsequently fled.
Despite his injuries, the wounded waiter was able to call the emergency services himself. Police first responders treated him on site before he was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery. He is no longer in danger of his life.
An immediate manhunt initially yielded no results. In connection with the attack, police later arrested two suspected Bulgarian nationals. They are to be brought before an investigating judge. Investigators are also examining whether a political motive lay behind the act.
