A passer-by discovered the body of a woman in a green space near the Zeiss-Großplanetarium in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg on Friday. According to n-tv, police and the public prosecutor's office have not ruled out homicide – investigations are progressing at full speed.
The victim was identified as Ilse Hartmann, 46 years old. According to initial examinations, the body had lain in the shrubbery "for some time", the authorities stated. An autopsy was already carried out over the weekend and is expected to provide further details about the cause of death.
The investigators have so far remained silent about the exact cause of death – this constitutes "perpetrator knowledge", a spokesman for the Berlin public prosecutor's office explained to Bild. According to information from the newspaper, Hartmann lived only a few minutes' walk from the discovery site. In her residential building she had previously drawn attention several times in the past, including due to police operations.
The investigators released a photograph of the woman taken during her lifetime and appealed to witnesses to report information about her last whereabouts and other relevant information.
