A passer-by discovered a woman's body in bushes near the Zeiss-Großplanetarium in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg on Friday morning. According to reports, the victim is a 46-year-old woman whose identity has already been established by authorities.
Police and the public prosecutor's office stated that initial examination of the body indicates homicide. "Initial examination of the body, which must have been lying there for some time, points to homicide," the joint statement said.
A murder commission from the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) has taken over the investigation. To date, nothing is known about the exact circumstances of the crime or a possible perpetrator.
On Sunday, investigators released an appeal for witnesses, including a photograph of the deceased. The woman is described as approximately 1.70 metres tall and slim. At the time of discovery, she was wearing a brown sweatshirt, a brown T-shirt, and a striped short fabric skirt.
The 4th Murder Commission is posing specific questions to the public: Who saw the woman alone or accompanied in the area of the green space? Who can provide information about her last location or any other pertinent information?
