In the early hours of the morning, a 33-year-old man lay in wait for his former partner on a residential street in Offenburg. He pursued the woman along the pavement, drew a revolver and shot her. The man then turned the weapon on himself.
A 75-year-old pensioner who lived in the immediate vicinity witnessed the fatal attack through his kitchen window. He heard the woman's desperate screams and witnessed the act. Other neighbours in the area noticed the incident.
Police are investigating the incident in connection with possible stalking allegations against the perpetrator. The man had apparently already pursued the woman before the act.
Investigators secured evidence at the crime scene. The identities of the two deceased were initially not disclosed.
