Through the brave actions of several youths, police in Bielefeld were able to arrest a robber. The young witnesses pursued the offender after observing a robbery and kept officers continuously updated on his whereabouts.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening at a playground on Teichstraße in the Mitte district. At around 19:00, the youths were playing football when they noticed a man nearby repeatedly punching a 46-year-old man in the face. They first attempted to stop the act by shouting loudly. When this failed, they alerted police.
As the offender left the scene with the stolen goods, the youths followed him at a safe distance. In doing so, they provided police with the man's current location by telephone at regular intervals. Officers were eventually able to identify the man on Herforder Straße based on the witnesses' detailed description and take him into provisional custody.
The 46-year-old victim suffered injuries and was transported to hospital by emergency services for further treatment. The arrested offender is a 54-year-old man of Lithuanian nationality who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the offence. A doctor took a blood sample from him at the station. Criminal proceedings have been initiated.
