Five-figure loss following cryptocurrency fraud in Neuruppin

According to stern.de, a 77-year-old from Neuruppin lost a five-figure sum to suspected fraudsters. The money was withdrawn from his account in recent days, police said.

The man had previously invested a low three-figure amount in cryptocurrency. At the end of May, he received a notification stating that his investment had grown to more than 100,000 euros. To receive the alleged payout, the suspected perpetrators demanded a copy of his ID card.

Although the 77-year-old did not submit this copy, the money was nevertheless withdrawn from his account. A refund is unlikely to be possible, it was stated — however, the bank is still examining this. Police are now investigating the identity of the suspected perpetrators.
