Unknown perpetrators made contact with the man via a chat platform. Initially, he completed various tasks and received smaller sums of money in return. The perpetrators then persuaded him to create a user account on a website to allegedly trade in cryptocurrencies.
As a result, the 57-year-old transferred money multiple times to a foreign account. When he wanted to withdraw his balance, the unknown perpetrators demanded further, increasingly higher payments – the invested money first had to be "bought free".
The man filed a report with the criminal police. Investigations into the previously unknown perpetrators are ongoing.
