A stranger attacked a residential house with an excavator on Sunday morning in Bonsweiher, a district of Mörlenbach. According to BILD, the 44-year-old rammed the excavator bucket into the house wall and tore a large hole in the corner of the building. Furniture inside partially fell outside.

The residents alerted the police at around 9.40 a.m. The family was able to leave the house; no one was injured. Police spokesman Bernd Hochstädter confirmed that the suspect was arrested at the scene. According to initial findings, the man had no family relationship to the residents and appeared to be in an exceptional state.

Investigators are now determining where the 44-year-old obtained the excavator and what motive lay behind the attack. The man was taken to a psychiatric specialist clinic. The Technical Relief Agency secured the damaged building, and a structural engineer must check its safety. The family cannot occupy the property for the time being. The exact extent of the damage has not yet been determined. The suspect is being investigated on suspicion of destruction of buildings – an offence that is punishable by up to five years imprisonment or a fine.
