Mass brawl between Chemie and Lok fans in Leipzig – Police seek witnesses
Around 30 football fans clashed in Leipzig-West; one person was injured in the head. Criminal police are investigating on suspicion of breach of public peace.
Football rivalry escalates: brawl in western Leipzig
In the area of Burgauenstrasse in the west of Leipzig, up to 30 people became involved in a violent altercation on Thursday last week at around 3 p.m. According to BILD, those involved are said to belong to the rival fan bases of BSG Chemie Leipzig and 1. FC Lok Leipzig.
At least one person was injured in the incident. Police spokesman Moritz Peters said: "A person lying on the ground was kicked and is said to have suffered head injuries. This person is still unknown." In addition, a vehicle was damaged in the incident.
By the time emergency services arrived, those involved had already left – suspected Chemie supporters mostly by bicycles, Lok fans according to current investigations by vehicles.
Criminal police in Leipzig have opened an investigation on suspicion of breach of public peace. The authorities are calling urgently for information from witnesses who observed the brawl or who have photographs and video recordings. Information can be provided to the criminal police on (0341) 966 4 6666 as well as to any other police station. Saxony police have also set up an online information portal through which images, videos and information can be submitted anonymously.
