The Dessau-Roßlau police district has recently seen an increase in fraud reports. Three victims stated they had been deceived in online transactions.
A 23-year-old man wanted to purchase a laptop on 18 April 2026 and found a corresponding listing on a sales platform. The alleged seller demanded 900 euros but refused any protection via the portal or an external payment service. The interested buyer transferred the money anyway and even sent proof of the transaction. The promise to send the device on 20 April was not kept. Since then, the seller has been unreachable and no shipping tracking was provided.
Similarly, a 41-year-old fell for a transfer scam in mid-April when he wanted to purchase a console for more than 375 euros. After the money arrived, the listing disappeared from the internet and the goods never arrived.
Another case involves the head of a Dessau company. The 65-year-old received an email offer for power tools in December of last year. After signing the contract in March, he transferred around 7,300 euros. The delivery did not arrive at the agreed date and no one could be reached by telephone. Research revealed that the company is insolvent.
In a separate incident, patrol officers stopped a 33-year-old man in Antoinettenstraße on 21 April in the early afternoon. A check revealed an enforceable arrest warrant issued by the relevant public prosecutor's office. The man was unable to pay the due fine of over 1,000 euros, so he was taken into custody to serve a substitute custodial sentence.
