Knife attack in Nuremberg-Gostenhof: 58-year-old injured outside mosque, suspect arrested

Knife attack in building corridor: dispute outside Nuremberg mosque escalates
As BILD reports, a knife attack occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Hessestraße in the Nuremberg district of Gostenhof. An emergency call reached police at 15:07. The crime scene was the entrance area of an apartment building that also houses an Islamic centre.
According to initial findings, two men first got into a dispute in the building corridor. The altercation escalated into a violent fight, during which a 58-year-old suffered a cut injury to his arm. Both men were subsequently taken to hospital.
The suspected attacker, a 61-year-old, allowed himself to be arrested without resistance upon the arrival of emergency services. As it was initially unclear what lay behind the incident, in addition to regular police, units of the Mittelfranken Support Command (USK) and a police dog handler were deployed.
In consultation with a representative of the Islamic community, officers carried out a precautionary search of the mosque premises for any further injured persons or suspects. No further persons were found.
The circumstances of the act remain the subject of police investigation. Whether the two men knew each other is currently unclear. Police are investigating on suspicion of dangerous assault.
