Following a fatal knife attack at Rosenheim railway station, the suspect has been transferred to a psychiatric hospital. According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, concrete indications of psychological disturbances were identified in the 27-year-old. The investigating judge issued a detention order at the request of the public prosecutor — the charge is murder.
On the night leading into Sunday, a 31-year-old British woman was attacked with a knife at the railway station. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries but succumbed to her wounds. Senior public prosecutor Gunther Scharbert stated that, based on current information, there were no indications that the victim and suspect knew each other. He emphasised that the investigation was still in its early stages and that the circumstances could change.
According to the public prosecutor, the British woman was passing through to the neighbouring country and apparently happened to be in Rosenheim only by chance. According to police, the 27-year-old German suspect is without fixed abode. He was provisionally arrested at the railway station on the night of the attack.
Police are now seeking witnesses who observed the attack or what happened beforehand at the railway station.
