Knife attack in apartment building hallway: police investigating assault causing bodily harm
A knife attack occurred on Tuesday afternoon outside a multi-family apartment building housing an Islamic centre on Hessestraße in the Nuremberg district of Gostenhof. According to BILD, a 58-year-old man was injured on the arm during the incident. A 61-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene.
The emergency call came in at 15:07, according to police. Based on current findings, the two men initially got into a dispute in the building hallway, which escalated into a violent altercation. During this, the 58-year-old sustained a stab wound. Both were subsequently taken to hospital. The alleged attacker offered no resistance when emergency services arrived.
Since it was initially unclear what lay behind the incident, in addition to regular police units, forces from the Middle Franconia support command (USK) and a police dog handler were deployed. In consultation with a representative of the Islamic community, officers conducted a precautionary search of the mosque rooms for any further injured persons or suspects — without result.
Whether the two men knew each other and what triggered the dispute remains unclear at present. Police are investigating on suspicion of assault causing bodily harm.
