Man suspected of fatal stabbing in Leverkusen surrenders to police in Cologne

Suspect arrested following fatal stabbing attack in Leverkusen
Nearly a week after the fatal stabbing attack on a 20-year-old in Leverkusen, the fleeing suspect has surrendered to police. According to WELT, the 24-year-old appeared on Monday together with his lawyer at a police station in Cologne. Officers then took him into custody. An arrest warrant for manslaughter was already in place against him; he was remanded in custody.
The attack took place on the preceding Tuesday in a park in the North Rhine-Westphalian city. The suspect is said to have injured the victim during an altercation with a stab wound to the upper body. The 20-year-old was taken by ambulance to a clinic with serious injuries, where he later died.
According to the information provided, there were no indications of self-defence. A possible trigger is cited as disputes over money. The suspect fled the scene after the act. Investigations by a murder squad are ongoing.
