According to NDR.de, police in Neubrandenburg have identified eleven suspects following analysis of mobile phone videos who were involved in a planned assault on a 14-year-old. The attack took place in mid-September and had been arranged in advance among those involved, who knew each other.
Whilst some of those involved attacked the victim with kicks, blows and objects and inflicted burns upon him, others filmed the scene from various angles. The 14-year-old was attacked for several hours and suffered serious injuries requiring hospitalisation. Police did not disclose the victim's current exact state of health.
Those involved in the attack are between nine and fifteen years old. Twelve suspects were identified in total, one of whom turned himself in. All main suspects are criminally responsible according to police, meaning they are at least fourteen years old. Several of the alleged perpetrators had previously come to police attention for shoplifting, drug dealing and bicycle theft.
Criminal police are investigating charges of aggravated assault. No date has yet been set for bringing charges. For suspects who are not yet criminally responsible, police will discuss and implement consequences with the youth welfare office. The authority announced that it will in future keep statistics on which districts of Neubrandenburg and at what times particularly many violent incidents are recorded.
