Arrest following bomb threat
According to Süddeutsche Zeitung, a 41-year-old man left a rucksack at the information desk in the central hall of Nuremberg's main railway station and claimed that it contained a bomb. Federal police subsequently evacuated the area for approximately one hour and cordoned it off.
Specialists from the bomb disposal service examined the rucksack and gave the all-clear: no explosives were found. A few hours later, federal police officers spotted the 41-year-old again at the main railway station and arrested him.
During the check on site, the suspect appeared confused at times according to police information. Officers also detected a smell of alcohol and arranged for a blood sample to be taken. A subsequent search of his flat yielded no explosives.
The criminal police are investigating on suspicion of disturbing the public peace through threats of criminal offences. The man, who had a prior criminal record, was presented to the public prosecutor, who requested his detention. On Sunday, an investigating judge was to decide on the question of detention.
