An employee of the district authority has been killed in Berngau during a weapons inspection. Police have surrounded the suspect's property and are warning the public.

Major operation in Berngau — government employee killed

Multiple emergency calls came in to the Upper Palatinate police at around 14:00. According to WELT, an employee of the Neumarkt district authority in the Upper Palatinate was shot in Berngau during a weapons inspection.

The suspect remained inside the building, WELT reported, citing police information. A colleague of the killed employee was also still in the house. Police had surrounded the building with a large contingent of officers.

Previously, police had stated that the suspect had fired several shots. Two other people were seriously injured in the incident. A police helicopter was deployed for situation assessment. Specialist units took over further operations on site.

Police then set up extensive cordons around the municipality of Berngau. Residents were instructed not to leave their houses. The public was urged to remain in their homes until further notice.
