Police seize Lamborghini and luxury watches during checkpoint on A3 near Passau
During a traffic control on the A3 motorway near Passau, police stopped a 40-year-old Serbian national who was driving a Lamborghini Urus with German number plates. During a search, officers found several tens of thousands of euros in cash and two luxury watches worth over €100,000.
As the man was unable to prove the origin of the valuables and the vehicle, investigators seized the car, the cash and the wristwatches. An investigation was launched against him on suspicion of money laundering. The incident was first reported by the specialist magazine Auto-Motor-Und-Sport, as iAuto.lv reports.
During the multi-hour control operation on 1 July, officers also checked an Audi driver, from whom a valuable silver coin collection was seized. Here too, the owner was unable to prove the origin, which is why the collection was also confiscated and an investigation was launched on suspicion of money laundering.
In addition, police officers executed two arrest warrants. One driver avoided arrest by paying an imposed fine. Officers discovered a forged driving licence on a 24-year-old Romanian national. Criminal proceedings were opened against him for forgery and driving without a valid driving licence.
In total, officers registered six criminal offences during the checks and identified five wanted persons. Enhanced checks on the A3 at the border with Austria are carried out regularly in order to combat cross-border crime.
