Criminal police in the Pfalz region are resorting to a new method: to obtain leads on the death of a young man, a photograph has been created with the help of artificial intelligence. This is reported by SWR.
Farm workers found the body of the 23-year-old on 19 May between Hettenleidelheim and Eisenberg in Bad Dürkheim district. The man was registered as resident in Grünstadt. An autopsy revealed that he had presumably died in an accident involving a vehicle.
Real photographs of deceased persons can scarcely be published, as the face after death hardly corresponds to the person's appearance in life. Investigators and the relevant prosecuting authority therefore jointly created a computer-generated image. To do this, they drew on an older photograph of the young man and adapted it digitally. The result shows him with open eyes and in the clothing in which he was found – barefoot and without socks.
The investigators believe that the 23-year-old walked for more than an hour on the evening of 18 May from Wattenheim to the place where he was found – without shoes and without socks. The criminal police in Neustadt are now asking people who saw the man on that evening or who have other information to come forward.
