Dangerous driving in Dortmund: driver flees at 154 km/h and injures police officer
A driver fled a police stop in Dortmund at over 150 km/h and struck a police officer in the process. Despite a helicopter deployment, the search remained unsuccessful.
High-speed chase through Dortmund city centre – police officer struck, driver still at large
A motorist evaded a police stop in Dortmund on Wednesday evening and injured a police officer in the process. This is reported by WELT citing a police statement from Thursday.
The incident began with a traffic violation after which officers attempted to stop the man. The driver then fled at high speed through the city centre, ignoring several red lights and significantly exceeding the permitted speed limit.
Witnesses alerted police to the fact that the vehicle had driven into a DIY store car park. There a plainclothes patrol managed to stop the car at gunpoint. However, the driver put the vehicle into reverse and struck a 33-year-old police officer. The officer was slightly injured in the incident.
The driver then continued his flight. A speed camera recorded the vehicle at a speed of 154 km/h. Despite a pursuit also by helicopter, the man escaped unidentified.
According to the newspaper "Bild", the vehicle was reportedly a white Mercedes-AMG. This report has not been officially confirmed. Police searched for the driver and vehicle throughout the night without success. Investigations against the unknown driver are continuing, among other charges, for assault.
