On 5 April, a celebration held by the Goman family in Leverkusen-Opladen escalated. Police officers who had responded to a shisha bar due to noise complaints were attacked by several guests and sustained injuries in some cases. A policewoman lost several teeth after being hit in the face by a bottle. Another officer had his arm broken by the attackers.
The emergency services quickly called for reinforcements. A total of 40 patrol cars and up to 150 police officers were deployed to calm the situation.
According to authorities, the Goman family is known in Leverkusen primarily for shop thefts. In the past, they have also been linked multiple times to fraud cases. Raids on properties belonging to family members have been carried out previously.
