Shock calls targeting senior women in Calvörde – fraudsters obtain no money
A fraudster attacked two senior women in Calvörde in Börde district with shock calls on Monday afternoon. The unknown caller first spoke with a 90-year-old woman and later with an 89-year-old resident of the village. In both cases, he withheld his telephone number.
The caller told the victims that their daughters had caused a traffic accident at a red light. He claimed that immediate bail was necessary to prevent their detention. Both senior women responded sensibly and hung up. The 90-year-old woman's daughter reported the incident to the police. No financial loss occurred, but both women were emotionally distressed.
Police warn against this tactic: perpetrators simulate emergency situations involving family members and often tailor their fabricated stories to fit the victims' life circumstances. Those affected should end the call immediately and contact relatives or the police.
Witnesses who can provide information are asked to contact Börde police station on 03904 / 4780 or via the Electronic Police Station.
