"A murder squad has since taken over the investigation and is intensively examining any connections to previous shooting incidents," the authority said at midday.

Shots had already been fired at a café in Cologne's Südstadt district on Monday. At that time too, there were no injuries according to police – the café was empty at the time. The murder squad is now investigating whether there is a link between both incidents.
