As reported by DER SPIEGEL (Justice & Crime), gunfire was directed at a moving public bus in the Hamburg district of Neugraben on Friday evening. No one was injured. An employee of Hamburg Police's situation service confirmed that bullet holes were found in a window of the vehicle – the window was severely damaged.
According to initial findings by the authorities, a dispute had preceded the incident. A 16-year-old girl sought shelter in a bus on line 251 from three male youths. Shortly after the bus started moving, passengers heard gunshots and alerted the police. When emergency services arrived, the suspected perpetrator had already fled. Several patrol cars searched the surrounding area, initially without success.
The criminal police, the murder squad and the state prosecutor's office opened an investigation. The background and motive remained unclear initially.
On Saturday, officers searched several flats in the Hamburg districts of Neuenfelde and Bahrenfeld. Police found a firearm in the basement of a 17-year-old, which according to the authorities is believed to be an air-pressure weapon.
