Shots fired at rapper Samra's hair salon in Berlin-Steglitz; incendiary device found
Unknown assailants fired multiple shots at the Cutaleya hair salon owned by rapper Samra in Steglitz-Zehlendorf overnight. Police also discovered an unexploded homemade incendiary device at the scene.
Special unit investigates attack on Berlin hair salon of rapper Samra
In the night into Monday, unknown assailants fired several shots at a hair salon on Osdorfer Straße in Berlin-Steglitz-Zehlendorf. According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the salon in question is Cutaleya hair salon, which belongs to Berlin rapper Samra. Photos show investigators outside the shop, whose window panes bear several bullet holes.
The shots were fired at around four o'clock in the morning. Police officers found a homemade explosive or incendiary device at the scene that had not detonated. The discovery was initially barely classified as a nationwide story — Berlin police reporters commented on the platform X that it would be news rather "if nobody got shot in this city". Only reports by the Bild newspaper and Tagesspiegel about the identity of the proprietor brought the case into focus.
In the meantime, the special unit "BAO Ferrum" of the state criminal police office has taken over the investigation. The authority was established at the end of February specifically because of the frequency of firearms incidents in Berlin and has initiated more than 600 investigation proceedings by mid-August.
In the current case, the rapper's milieu is likely to play a role. In Berlin, various criminal clans have competed for years over which artist they can work with. Samra had performed just the Sunday before alongside his associate Capital Bra on Oranienplatz in front of more than 1,000 visitors to promote a new album.
It is not the first attack on his salon: in 2022 the business was allegedly attacked, reportedly by around 50 masked clan members. In comments to the F.A.Z., Samra downplayed the incident at the time: "Oh, that incident in the hair salon had nothing to do with me. A customer had trouble with someone and just happened to be at our place." The rapper has not commented on the current attack so far.
