Shots fired in Pankow: Building search and helicopter deployment

As bz-berlin.de reports, Berlin police were called to the Pankow district around 1 a.m. after witnesses reported shots fired. An injured person was also initially reported.

At the scene on Grabbeallee at the corner of Tschaikowskistraße, officers determined that no one had been struck by the shots. Numerous eyewitnesses consistently reported that shots had been fired from a moving car. Police questioned the witnesses and secured evidence at the scene.

In Tschaikowskistraße, officers with weapons drawn searched a residential building where the suspect may have hidden – without success.

Approximately 20 metres from the scene stood a vehicle involved in an accident. One car had apparently been hit from behind by another vehicle. Investigators on site considered a possible connection between the rear-end collision and the shots.

A police helicopter was also involved in the search. According to bz-berlin.de, it has not yet been clarified whether live ammunition was actually used. The investigation is ongoing.
