Nearly eight months after a shooting in a betting office in Giessen's city centre, a 34-year-old man has appeared before the Giessen Regional Court as of today. On the evening of 11 October 2025, the defendant, a Turkish national, allegedly entered the betting office and fired four shots from a pistol. Three people aged 16, 27 and 40 were wounded by projectiles in their legs and torso.
Upon leaving the premises, he allegedly fired another shot in the direction of the entrance without hitting anyone. The suspect was arrested on the same evening as the incident.
According to investigations, a dispute between the 34-year-old and one of the victims several weeks before the incident is likely to have been the trigger. Witness interviews as well as the evaluation of video footage and mobile phone data indicated this connection, according to the public prosecutor's office.
