Seriously injured man in Hamburg men's hostel – two arrests made
A 29-year-old was seriously injured on the hand during a dispute in a men's hostel in Hamburg-Hummelsbüttel. Two suspects were provisionally arrested.
Dispute in Hamburg-Hummelsbüttel ends in serious hand injury
A dispute between three residents of a men's hostel on Poppenbütteler Weg in Hamburg-Hummelsbüttel escalated on late Thursday evening. According to BILD, a 29-year-old German man was seriously injured on the hand through an "act of violence as yet unknown".
Around 22.30, residents called emergency services following a loud bang. The police then arrived with numerous patrol cars from across the city in the north of the Hanseatic city. Riot police with protective equipment and machine pistols also cordoned off the alleged crime scene.
The officers arriving at the scene were confronted with a sobering sight: the heavily bleeding 29-year-old had to be given immediate first aid by an emergency doctor before being taken to a Hamburg hospital.
According to police, indications from radio traffic suggested the man might have been injured by a gunshot. At the scene, officers arrested two suspects – a 31-year-old and a 38-year-old, both German nationals. However, according to BILD information, police found no firearm during the subsequent search of the affected rooms.
Instead, a pyrotechnic device is now the focus of investigators' attention: it is being examined whether a so-called Polish firecracker could have been responsible for the injuries. The initial investigation was handled by the criminal on-call service; the competent state criminal police office for assault offences (LKA 141) has since taken over the work.
The two suspects were released after police procedures were concluded.
