In a locality in Osternienburger Land, a 27-year-old man has apparently inflicted severe injuries on a six-year-old child. The boy remains in critical condition and is fighting for his life. On Sunday, an emergency call was made in a municipality in Anhalt-Bitterfeld district regarding a small child. A rescue helicopter flew the six-year-old with significant head injuries to a hospital. There, doctors found injuries that, in their assessment, could not be attributed to an accident. The clinic management immediately informed the prosecuting authorities.
The public prosecutor's office is focusing on the mother's life partner as a suspect. The young man is accused of causing serious physical harm to the child. On the same day as the incident, authorities ordered a raid on the couple's flat and arrested the 27-year-old. A judge at the district court in Köthen approved the prosecution's application for investigative custody. Since then, the accused has been in prison.
To date, the exact circumstances of the act remain unclear. Officers would not provide further details for reasons of investigative tactics. Two days after the incident, police still had no new findings. Investigators continue to work on clarifying the case.
