Police discovered the body of a 77-year-old woman in a detached house on Pommernstraße in Ratingen. According to t-online.de, police and the Düsseldorf public prosecutor's office stated in a joint announcement that the woman was killed "by means of severe violence" – and that the crime was committed by someone from the family environment.
The 42-year-old daughter of the victim herself informed officers of the killing on Friday evening. On the order of the Düsseldorf public prosecutor's office, she was to be brought before a judge on Saturday.
The 80-year-old husband of the deceased was also provisionally arrested on Friday evening. However, the suspicion against him has not been substantiated so far, police and the public prosecutor's office stated. He would be released "after the completion of initial criminal investigation measures".
