In Gröningen in Börde district, police arrested a 48-year-old man who had previously fled from a control. The incident occurred on Sunday.
Officers had stopped the Simson rider, but the man accelerated. In doing so, he nearly lost control of his vehicle repeatedly and eventually drove onto a meadow. Shortly afterwards, the officers discovered the suspect in an adjoining field.
When asked to explain his presence, the man stated he had merely been observing birds. However, the police officers established that he did not possess a valid driving licence and had apparently consumed intoxicating substances. Furthermore, the Simson turned out to be stolen. The arrested man claimed he had found the two-wheeler at a folk festival and had only taken it for a test ride.
