Airsoft gun triggers major police operation in Munich-Bogenhausen – 35-year-old arrested
A 35-year-old threatened a man with a deceptively realistic airsoft gun on Denninger Strasse and demanded a cigarette. Police responded with at least 15 patrol cars.
Airsoft gun used as threat: Munich police launch major operation in Bogenhausen
With at least 15 patrol cars and the support unit (USK), Munich police deployed to Denninger Strasse in Bogenhausen on Friday evening at approximately 21:30. The incident was triggered by a 35-year-old man who threatened another man there with an airsoft gun.
According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, citing a spokesperson for the police headquarters, bystanders had observed the 35-year-old handling a black, gun-like object in an underground car park and on the pavement in front of it. Subsequently, he repeatedly demanded that a 26-year-old Munich resident give him a cigarette – while doing so, he pointed the weapon at the ground in front of the man.
Shortly before his arrest, the 35-year-old threw the weapon away. The object was an airsoft gun that resembles a real firearm.
The arrested man was issued an arrest warrant on suspicion of attempted serious robbery and violation of the weapons act.
The incident is part of a series of similar cases: In mid-August, Munich police shot a 14-year-old in Schwabing who was also carrying an airsoft gun.
