A woman was killed by multiple stab wounds at a Lidl supermarket on Bahnhofsallee in Ratzeburg (Schleswig-Holstein) on Wednesday afternoon. According to kn-online.de, a 44-year-old German attacked the woman at the checkout. Police and fire services arrived with a large contingent following several emergency calls.
The woman succumbed to her serious injuries. Police and the Lübeck state prosecutor's office officially confirmed that a person had died. There were no other injured parties according to police. At the time of the incident, approximately 20 customers were in the discount store according to information from the authorities.
Two construction workers who witnessed the attack intervened immediately: they struck the attacker with bottles, knocked the 44-year-old to the ground and restrained him until police arrived. The man was injured in the process and was subsequently taken to the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) in Lübeck. Despite the courageous intervention of the witnesses, no help came in time for the attacked woman.
The crime scene area was cordoned off over a wide perimeter. Police stated that there was no danger to the public. The murder squad of the district criminal investigation office and the Lübeck state prosecutor's office have launched an investigation on suspicion of manslaughter.
