Attack in Chemnitz flat – suspect flees to Czech Republic
Following a homicide in the Markersdorf district of Chemnitz, police have arrested a 45-year-old Afghan man in the Czech Republic. This is reported by mdr.de, citing police and the Chemnitz public prosecutor's office.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning. According to police, the emergency call came in around 4:25 a.m. In a flat in Markersdorf, the suspect initially attacked a 38-year-old woman, causing life-threatening injuries. He then severely attacked a 20-year-old woman, left the flat and fled in a car. According to police, both women are close relatives of the man.
The emergency doctor could only establish the death of the 38-year-old at the crime scene. The 20-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Arrest between Prague and Brno
Approximately one and a half hours after the incident, the fugitive was located on a Czech motorway via the Joint Centre of the German and Czech police in Petrovice-Schwandorf. Czech officers stopped the 45-year-old between Prague and Brno and took him into provisional custody.
As the Chemnitz public prosecutor's office informed MDR SACHSEN on Monday when asked, a European arrest warrant has now been issued against the suspect. At the same time, his extradition to Germany has been requested. When the transfer will take place remains unclear.
Police and the Chemnitz public prosecutor's office are investigating the homicide.
