Fraud in Munich-Perlach: Senior loses €10,000 to fake second-hand dealer
Two men gained access to a senior's flat in Perlach by claiming they wanted to open a second-hand shop, and stole cash and gold jewellery.
Fake second-hand dealers rob senior in Munich-Perlach
As reported by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, con artists have defrauded a man over 80 years old in the Munich district of Perlach of approximately €10,000. The perpetrators employed a previously unknown method.
Initially, the two men called the victim with a withheld number and claimed they wanted to open a second-hand shop. They asked whether the senior had old items, which he confirmed. Within a quarter of an hour, both men were standing at his flat door.
The man let them in. One of the perpetrators engaged him in conversation while the second was able to move through the flat unnoticed. Only after the men had left did the victim discover that cash, gold jewellery and rings were missing.
He immediately contacted the police. An immediate manhunt produced no results. Checking the phone number that had called proved to yield no usable leads either, as the perpetrators had withheld their number.
Munich police advise that one should generally be suspicious of unannounced house visits in connection with purchase offers and not let strangers into one's flat.
