A week after the discovery of a dead three-month-old child in Renningen (Baden-Württemberg), the Ludwigsburg criminal police arrested the child's mother. The 32-year-old is now in investigative custody. She is being investigated on suspicion of homicide. RTL.de

Since 24 June, investigations have been underway by police and the public prosecutor's office against the woman. According to statements from authorities, she is believed to have left the body of the boy herself at the edge of the locality. Investigators now harbour strong suspicion that she was also responsible for the infant's death.

The little boy was found last Friday following a search operation lasting several hours, some hundreds of metres from the family home. Initially, the accused claimed that her baby had disappeared from the pushchair the previous evening whilst it was unattended. This account, however, is not supported by investigators.

An autopsy carried out on Tuesday has so far yielded no clear determination of the cause of death. Whether the infant was killed, fell victim to an accident, or died of sudden infant death syndrome remains unclear. Investigations by the public prosecutor's office and criminal police continue. The authorities made no comment regarding the possible role of the father.
