Chase from Bavaria to Wiesbaden: Audi driver rams police car – three arrests

Cross-state chase ends in crash in Wiesbaden-Bierstadt

A grey Audi, nearly 100 kilometres of pursuit and a head-on collision with a police vehicle – this is the outcome of a chase in the night leading into Sunday. According to osthessen-news.de, citing the South East Hesse police headquarters in Offenbach, three people were temporarily arrested in the process.

First stop in Miltenberg

According to current findings, the 32-year-old driver first caught the attention of Bavarian officers in Miltenberg at around 2:20 a.m. During the stop, police established that the man was allegedly under the influence of drugs and apparently did not have a valid driving licence. After a blood test and completion of police procedures, he was initially released to go home.

Caught again – and then on the run

Shortly afterwards, Bavarian officers on the B 469 near Stockstadt again noticed a grey Audi with Wiesbaden registration plates (WI) due to its conspicuous driving behaviour. When a patrol attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver evaded them by driving at excessive speed. The car continued its journey on the A3 in the direction of Cologne.

The chase then continued over the A3 and A66 further on to Wiesbaden-Bierstadt. At around 4:15 a.m., the journey came to an abrupt end: the 32-year-old performed a U-turn manoeuvre and collided head-on with a following police car in the process. Two vehicles were damaged in the accident.

Three people arrested

The driver and his two passengers – a man and a woman – were temporarily arrested on the spot by the pursuing patrol. Investigations against the 32-year-old are currently ongoing.

He faces multiple criminal charges: suspicion of endangering road traffic, suspicion of illegal motor racing, suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicating substances, and suspicion of driving without a valid driving licence.

Police seek witnesses

Police are asking witnesses to the incidents to contact them on the following numbers: South East Hesse Motorway Police Station on 06181/9010-0 and Alzenau Police Station on 06023/944-0.
